Kyle Saldana
AoA – How long have you been in Austin?
Kyle – Technically since my conception, roughly 27 years ago.
AoA – When did you realize that you were an artist?
Kyle – When I fell in true-love for the first time, and through the pain and pleasure of a life-bond grew a deeper sense of responsibility towards being a strong individual. But, my brother showed me how to draw a cube when I was a child and I still draw them the exact same way… so, maybe then?
AoA – Can you speak to your art training?
Kyle – There’s no formal schooling to speak of, yet, but I have grown accustomed to learning from books, friends… And YouTube.
AoA – Who are some artists that you look up to?
Kyle – Mu Pan, Christian Rex van Minnen, Reinier Gamboa, Colin Marston, Freddie hubbard, Rynygyto Ouk.
AoA – Can you tell us a little bit about your work?
Kyle – It’s my obsession. Sequences of repeating numbers, orderly shifts on the micro-level of a pattern which slowly create a new whole. These things, like the passing of time, grow and dissipate, are separate and together. It’s the clashing of perspectives, and the force that drives me to make order. The patterns are satisfying because over time they build themselves.
AoA – Can you talk a little about your creative processes in creating?
Kyle –

AoA – Big question. What do you feel the role of art is in the world?
