Introducing Good Luck Buddha!
AoA – How long have you been in Austin and how did you find your way here?
GLB – Been here for about 16 years now, Came up to visit some friends ones weekend and never left, pretty typical scenario these days. Fuckin Californians lol
AoA – When did you realize that you were an artist?
GLB – Still trying to figure that out ha, but its something i’ve stuggled with for years. Finally coming to realization that i may just have it in me.
AoA – Where do you find inspiration?
GLB – Every where from music, pop culture and other artists i look up to.
AoA – What is your work concerned with?
GLB – Passing along a message for the viewer to interpret with their current situation.
AoA – Can you speak to your art training?
GLB – Everything i have done is self taught, When i first got started in the streets doing work, I asked alot of people for help, tips, tricks and got very little help. So basically went to youtube and figured out everything i wanted to learn, Still have that same mentality while learning new skills, taking away everything i’ve learned I always share my knowledge with others.
AoA – What are your preferred medium(s)?
GLB – I really enjoy working with Wood and epoxy, but def dable with anything i can get my hands on.
AoA – Can you talk a little about your creative processes?
GLB – So my creative process starts with some herb, haha i like to get my mind right 1st and foremost, Then i’ll start with a pharse, a song lyric and try and work around that.. If i am hitting a mental block i will just start doing some random mixing of images until something comes to me, Typically i start getting inspired when i am super tired and getting ready for bed, and have to rush those ideas out.
AoA – Do you have any feelings towards Digital Art versus traditional mediums?
GLB – Nope, I use both to accomplish the same thing, I like to look at everything as a tool, you can either use that tool to accomplish your end result or let it stay in the bag.
AoA – Who are some artists that you look to?
GLB – Top 3. Banksy, Shepard, Alex Grey.
AoA – If you could own 1 piece from a living artist, who would it be?
GLB – I would be super stoked to have a Banksy piece in my collection.
AoA – Big question. What do you feel the role of art is in the world?
GLB – To provide an outlet, in all aspects of the word ART is there for everyone to enjoy as they see fit, if that means adding the art to a collection, enjoying when life throws you a hard ball, taking your mind off of the worlds troubles ART is always there!
AoA – What else do you enjoy besides making art?
GLB – I really love to grill, there is just something about using fire and creating a perfect meal from one of lifes for first discoveries. I am pretty good cook as well. But the wife usually handles that 😉
AoA – Where can we find your work? Do you have any shows planned for the future?
GLB – My work is all over the world, from the streets in Austin, to deep down in Mexico, to a cave in Afghanistan, To China town in Melbourne I spent the first years putting up everything i could, producing as much art as i could and sent it to anyone who would toss it up. The process has streamlined over the years and working on getting my art in more studios and shows as this year progresses. I am planning my first solo show, But am still in the early stages of planning it out. I hope by end of the year I can get it rolling! Also once a month we are hosting the SpraTX Collective Block Partys.
AoA – Any final advice for all the artists reading out there?
GLB – Do you! Don’t worry what others think or say. Haters are always gonna hate. I took the hard road to get where I am at, Learned alot and thats my main piece of advice, continue to do you, do stuff that makes you happy, that challenges you and always evolve your craft!
