Todd Shepherd
AoA – How long have you been in Austin and how did you find your way here?
Todd – I was Born here. I moved away for 8 years for school and adventures and came back to pursue art dreams.
AoA – When did you realize that you were an artist?
Todd – After painting a decent portrait of a tiger in grade school.
AoA – Can you speak to your art training?
Todd – Graduated from design school in Colorado and have trained with some mentors over the years.
AoA – Who are some artists that you look to?
Todd – I love the classics. Da Vinci, Picasso, Monet, Rembrandt, Dali. It amazes me what they completed in times where just survival was difficult. More modern influences would be Doze Green, Oliver Vernon, Damon Soule, and Zio Ziegler.
AoA – Where do you derive inspiration from?
Todd – I get inspired from everything but mostly nature, city life, music and other art.
AoA – Can you tell us a little bit about your work?
Todd – It is an exploration of the macro and micro cosmos. Its also a process of turning time and music into a visual language. Ive been painting full time for 10 years and have worked through many different styles. I like to draw people into a piece and let them find details and make their own interpretations.
AoA – Can you talk a little about your creative processes in creating?
Todd – I start a piece with no expectation of its final product. Some pieces morph two or three times before i consider them done and take over a year to complete. Others, i finish in a week. I give the painting room to grow on its own, and i have fun exploring and finding new techniques in the process.
AoA – If you could own one piece from a living artist, who would it be?
Todd – Mars-1
AoA – Where can we find your work? Do you have any shows planned for the future?
Todd – Social media is the most up to date place to find my work.
